Sherwood America Inc., one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high performance audio and video equipment, announced today the release of their latest Blu-ray player, the BDP-5004, and a high-performance A/V receiver, the RD-8504. The BDP-5004 has an MSRP of $199.95 and will be available in October. The RD-8504 has an MSRP of $599.95 and will be available in September. Both components will be on display in booth 1269 at CEDIA Expo in Atlanta, September 10 through 13.

Sherwood BDP-5004 Blu-ray Player
With video and audio performance that takes full advantage of the Blu-ray format, this Profile 2.0 player with BD-Live capability can play Blu-ray discs at 1080i, 1080p60 and 1080p24, as well as scale standard DVDs to 720p, 1080i, or 1080p , through its HDMI 1.3 output. Both Deep Color and XV Color are supported. Onboard decoding is provided for Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio high-resolution audio formats, as well as for Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus.

In addition to its HDMI 1.3 output, the BDP-5004 has component and composite outputs, with the component outputs accommodating 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i resolutions. Additional audio outputs include a coaxial digital output and a 2-channel analog down mix output, as well as 5.1 channel analog outputs for playback of high-resolution surround material through receivers lacking HDMI inputs. 192 KHz/24-bit digital to analog converters ensure superb audio quality on the analog outputs.

"With today’s advanced audio and video delivery systems centered on the format, we believe that Blu-ray players are an important category for Sherwood, building on our 50+ year legacy of audio excellence, said Jeffrey Hipps, Sherwood’s Sr. VP for Marketing and Product Development. "Both of these new components are capable of delivering the best of the format at a remarkably affordable cost."

Playback formats supported include DVD, VCD, DVD ±R/RW, CD-R/RW, CD, MP3, MP3-CD, most popular codecs including; WMA, MPEG 1, 2 and 4, VC-1, h.264, DivX and JPEG, with media playback available through a front panel USB host input.

Sherwood RD-8504 Receiver
Combining superior audio and video performance with an array of features, the RD-8504 provides Dolby and DTS lossless Blu-ray audio, converts any video to 1080p through its HDMI output, provides three HDMI 1.3 repeater inputs, and delivers 100 watts RMS for each of its seven channels at less than 0.2% THD, through totally discrete amplifiers.

Using Anchor Bay Technologies’ ABT2010 video processing chip, the RD-8504 converts all video signals to HDMI at any display resolution up to 1080p. Superior audio is produced by 192 KHz/24 bit D to A converters for all seven channels. In addition to Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio decoding, the receiver handles DTS 96/24, ES, and Neo6; Dolby Pro Logic IIx, as well as SACD and DVD-A. An additional eight DSP surround modes are provided.

Its three HDMI 1.3 inputs have repeater circuitry, meaning that the receiver does not simply hand off the audio component of an HDMI input signal to its HDMI output. The receiver also receives and processes the HDMI audio from the source component, eliminating the need for separate audio cables from the source component to the receiver. One HDMI output is provided.

Additional video connections include component video inputs and output, plus for composite and S video, three in and two out. Digital audio inputs include two coaxial and two optical digital, plus one optical digital output. Direct 7.1 channel inputs accommodate multichannel analog signals, and eight additional analog inputs handle two-channel sources. Streaming input is possible when used with an optional Sherwood BT-R7 Bluetooth receiver, which docks on the front panel. The BT-R7 enables the RD-8504 to receive streaming audio from any Bluetooth A2DP source device, including smart phones, MP3 players, PDAs and PCs.

Using the supplied microphone, system setup is simple and automatic. One touch of a button sets channel levels and speaker distances, and frequency response correction is available through Sherwood’s SNAP™ room equalization system. Sherwood’s Cinema EQ can be engaged for bright-sounding sources.

For listening in a second room, multi-source DualZone™ playback is available. To receive terrestrial and satellite broadcasts, the Quartz PLL Synthesized AM/FM tuner has 30 presets, and the receiver is Sirius ready. Control is through an IR preprogrammed remote control, and the receiver is compatible with Sherwood’s DigiLink-i to provide remote operability with Sherwood’s DS-10 iPod doc.
