Millenniata Introduces the Only Permanent Archiving Solution
Posted Sep 22, 2009 Print Version     Page 1of 1

Millenniata, Inc. (www.millenniata.com) introduces the first permanent, backwards-compatible archiving solution for the digital age. The M-ARC™ disc is the first archival product that employs a permanent physical change to the write layer to record data in a DVD format. This gives the M-ARC™ disc the ability to store data permanently.

All commercially available writable DVD discs use a write layer that is chemically changed by a disc drive’s laser. The laws of physics and logic suggest that materials that do not experience a permanent physical change will not last. Data written in this way will be corrupted over time and cannot be permanent. In fact, natural processes are enough to corrupt the data on the DVD in just a few years. The National Archives warns that the shelf-life of a regular DVD is only 2-5 years. Until now there was no solution in the market to store digital data for an extended period of time. Millenniata’s M-ARC™ disc allows data to be stored permanently.

The M-ARC™ disc’s write layer is constructed of rock-hard material that is physically changed as data is written. This permanent change cannot be overwritten, erased, or corrupted by natural processes. This proprietary material has been tested using the most rigorous test possible to verify the durability of the M-ARC™ disc. Because the M-ARC™ disc is constructed of rock-hard material, it demonstrated extreme durability by passing all testing without difficulty, while conventional DVDs were compromised and/or failed completely.

M-ARC™ discs are written using Millenniata’s M-Writer™ drive. The M-Writer™ drive is an extremely high quality drive that is specially configured to etch the M-ARC™ disc’s rock-hard write layer. The M-ARC™ disc and the M-Writer™ drive form a system that now allows data to be permanently written.

Millenniata has created a Write Once, Read Forever™ system for data storage. Archivists and others wanting to store precious critical data now have a solution to the decades-old digital data storage dilemma. Millenniata, Inc. (www.millenniata.com) has exclusively licensed a remarkable optical data storage technology from Brigham Young University that is the first permanent, backwards-compatible archiving solution for the digital age. Millenniata’s Write Once Read Forever™ technology uses materials known to endure for centuries. This technology will provide secure, accessible, permanent data storage for hundreds of years. The patent-pending Millennial Disc™ will be readable in standard DVD drives –a format that business, institutions, and families can easily use.
