InFocus  Introduces ScreenPlay 5700 Projector

InFocus Corporation is launching the new ScreenPlay 5700, a sub-$5,000 projector with cinema-quality performance.

The ScreenPlay 5700 is a new home theater platform from InFocus that includes the latest technology from both Texas Instruments and Faroudja. With these technologies integrated with the ScreenPlay design and function, the ScreenPlay 5700 delivers uniform brightness, high contrast in black and gray levels, and sharp, full-image focus with low distortion and no pin cushioning or barreling.

The ScreenPlay 5700 is also the first home projector to ship with the Matterhorn DLP technology from Texas Instruments, which provides native 16:9 resolution in the United States as well as in Wide PAL countries. With more DVDs coming to market in their original movie theater formats, consumers have been faced with watching their favorite stars either squished short and fat or stretched long and thin so they can fit into plasma or LCD screens. The ScreenPlay 5700 will display images in the way they were intended to be seen, so corners won't be cropped and headshots won't be cut off at the hairline.

The projector has 1000 lumens for clear pictures in almost any lighting condition and 1400:1 contrast ratio for crisp blacks and detailed gray scale. Calibrated to D65 color mastering standards for perfect HD colors, the projector can display 16.7 million colors simultaneously. There are eight selectable video sources for unrivaled connectivity and the Matterhorn DLP technology provides true native 16:9 resolution (1024x576). The new DCDi from Faroudja has additional color and sharpness, noise reducers and a videophile-grade scaler.  The ScreenPlay 5700 will be available on June 25.
