Sony, HP announce New 10x4x32 CD-R/RW Drives

March 28, 2021 | Sony Electronics, Inc. is expanding its Spressa CD-RW line with four new drives, the Spressa i.Link (CRX145E/XI) external IEEE-1394 drive, the Spressa Professional external SCSI (CRX145S/XS), the Spressa Professional internal EIDE (CRX145E/CH), and the Spressa Professional internal SCSI (CRX145S/C). Each of these drives support 10X CD-R recording, 4X CD-RW recording, and 32X MAX read speeds. Each drive comes bundled with Prassi software products' CD Extreme, Sony abCD, Dantz' Retrospect Express, and MixMan Studio. The CRX145E/XI and CRX145S/XS drives also come bundled with Discribe CD Creation software. Sony's Spressa CRX145E/XI, CRX145S/XS, CRX145S/C, and CRX145E/CH drives are available at estimated street prices of $399, $379, $329, and $299 respectively.

Hewlett-Packard Company has also announced its 10x4x32 CD-R/RW drives, the HP CD-Writer Plus 9300i and 9310i which is based on the Spressa mechanism. Both drives are internal IDE models, and require a 200mHz PC or greater. The drives include HP fast format, HP simple backup, Adaptec's Direct CD and Easy CD Creator, Neato CD Labeler, and Corel Print Office or ACID software. Hewlett-Packard's CD-Writer Plus 9300i and 9310i drives are available at an estimated street price of $299.
