Sony Announces CD-R Still Camera

Sony Electronics has announced the Mavica MVC-CD1000, a CD-R-based digital still camera. The camera utilizes a 156MB 3 1/2-inch CD-R, which can hold up to 160 1600x1200 (2.1 mega-pixel) images. The MVC-CD1000 has the ability to record in several modes, including JPEG, MPEG HQ, and TIFF in UXGA, SXGA, XGA, or VGA image sizes. Photo features include a 10x optical zoom, a through-the-lens viewfinder, and manual camera adjustments. The Super SteadyShot feature helps to reduce user camera shake. A flash is built-in to the camera, and an external flash terminal is available (for use with the optional HVL-F1000 flash). A 3:2 picture size ratio, 12-bit A/D conversion, and a rechargeable InfoLithium battery with power meter round out the list of features. The Mavica MVC-CD1000 ships with five CD-R discs, and will be available at an estimated price of $1,300.
