Cirrus Logic Partners With Sony to Double CD-R and RW Capcity

July 31, 2020 | Cirrus Logic, Inc. has announced a new CD-R/RW drive device that offers twice the storage capacity of standard CD-R/RW solutions. The new double-density encoder/decoder, the CR3490, allows users to store up to 1.3GB on a disc, and features 16X write and 48X max read speeds. The device is based on the new Double-Density CD-R/RW (DDCD) specification from Sony and Philips. The CR3490, ATAPI CD-RW encoder/decoder is packaged in a 128-pin LQFP package, and is priced at $8 each in quantities of 25,000. Manufacturers can obtain a DDCD license from Sony or Philips.
