Ultera Announces RAID Controller for Optical Drives

Ultera Systems has announced Stor2, the first in a series of products to combine RAID technology with optical devices. Stor2 allows for simultaneously recording two copies of DVD-R, DVD-RAM, CD-R, or Magneto-Optical (MO) media at the full speed of the drives. The controller works with both standalone drives as well as library systems. Host computers see the paired drives or libraries as single SCSI devices which operate at full speed. The system is fault-tolerant, as the failure of one drive does not affect the operation of the other. Ultera’s Stor2 RAID controllers are priced at $1,500 in OEM quantities (100 units).
