Spruce Announces DVDPerformer

Spruce Technologies, Inc. has announced the availability of DVDPerformer, an integrated DVD authoring and encoding solution for Windows NT. DVDPerformer provides real-time hardware-based MPEG encoding with analog inputs; multiple camera angles, eight audio tracks, and 32 subtitle tracks; integrated DVD proofing and debugging; and support for Web-linked DVD and DVDonCD. The solution also supports the cutting master format (CMF) for DVD-R to replication; motion menus, slide show, and 16:9 support; and DVD-Video, DVD-ROM, and DVD-Hybrid support. Users can preview a project at any time during the authoring process using Spruce's RealView technology. DVDPerformer also features 30 levels of undo.

Microsoft Selects Ravisent for Xbox DVD Playback

Ravisent Technologies, Inc. has announced that Microsoft has selected it to be the provider of DVD playback software for its Xbox video game system. Under the terms of the five-year agreement, Microsoft will license Ravisent's CineMaster DVD engine for DVD playback on the Xbox console. Microsoft's Xbox is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2001.

MediaFORM Releases the Dual Axiom

MediaFORM has released Dual Axiom, a network-ready CD-R and DVD-R publishing system. The Dual Axiom offers an integrated authoring, duplication, and printing solution. Dual Axiom includes either two MediaFORM 16X/12X selectable-speed SmartDRIVE CD-R drives and one Pioneer DVD-R drive, or with one SmartDRIVE and two DVD-R drives. The input/output capacity of the device is 100 discs. Dual Axiom is a standalone device, and incorporates MediaFORM's SmartAPI. MediaFORM's Dual Axiom is available at an MSRP of $25,999 for the Dual Axiom-t1, and $29,999 for the Dual Axiom-t2.

LGE to Incorporate NUON Technology

Pinnacle Systems Announces DV500 Plus Pinnacle Systems, Inc. has announced DV500 PLUS, a real-time DV editing product. DV500 PLUS offers support for Adobe Premiere 6.0, incuding its new multi-track audio mixer and 16:9 video format. Other new features include real-time image correction, real-time effects and transitions, and real-time titles with TitleDeko RT. DV500 PLUS is equipped with a DV2 Speed Codec with dual processor support. MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MP3, Real Media, and Window Media files can be exported from the device. DV500 PLUS retains all of the hardware features of the DV500, including analog and digital input/output.

Hewlett-Packard Announces New CD-RW and CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo

Hewlett-Packard Company has unveiled two new HP CD Writers. HP has announced company's first CD-R/RW/DVD-ROM combination drive, the HP CD-Writer DVD Combo 9900ci. The 9900ci is an internal IDE drive that features 12X write, 10X rewrite, 32X CD read, and 8X DVD read speeds. Hewlett-Packard has also announced the HP CD-Writer 9710i, an internal IDE drive that offers 16X write, 10X rewrite, and 40X read speeds. Both drives ship with HP's MyCD software, as well as MP3 conversion and storage software, CD label and CD jewel-case cover creation software, and backup software. HP's CD-Writer DVD Combo 9900ci is available at an estimated retail price of $349, while the 9710i, is available at an MSRP of $299.

Metropolis DVD Launches Full-Service DVD Production

Metropolis DVD has launched a full video production services group to create original video content and stereo-to-5.1 surround sound extrapolation for music DVD projects. "DVD is becoming an increasingly important distribution format for music, and we want our audiences to experience our artists at the next level," says David Anthony, president of Metropolis DVD. Metropolis DVD is a full-service design and production studio, with facilities in New York City and London.

Vivastar Unveils New DVD-R Drives

Vivastar has unveiled the Vivastar DVD Recorder, a 4.7GB DVD-R drive based on Pioneer's third-generation A03. Available in both internal and external models, the Vivastar DVD Recorder connects to a PC via a SCSI-2 interface, and can write to 4.7GB DVD-R discs at both 1X and 2X speeds. Vivastar plans to follow the release of its external and internal DVD recorders with a series of related models, including a video/audio model which will connect to TVs, enabling users to time-shift television programs and transfer favorite home videos to DVD-R.
